The Global Read Aloud 2017
Casorso is proud to have eight classes participating in the GRA for the first time this year! Throughout October and November these classes will be connecting with other schools around the world as we read a common book together and share activities. Be sure to check out the bulletin board near the gym as it fills with postcards and letters from our partner schools.
Battle of the Books (Grades 3/4 and 5)
Students are reading voraciously to be ready to start training in the New Year. Two teams of three will be selected to represent our school at the zone level in April 2018.
Red Cedar Reading Club (Grades 5/6)
Red Cedar has begun! Interested students are still welcome to sign-up. Book Club meetings run Fridays at big recess from January to April.
LITerrific Day is coming February 19, 2018!
Another fun-filled morning with Noisy Reading, an author visit, a bookmark contest and plenty of guests who will share their love of reading with us. Students are invited to come in costume as their favourite literary character. Parents and family are welcome to join us from 8:40am-9:00am to read in the hallways and all around the school.

Author Visit for Gr. 2/3 – CALE ATKINSON (November 2017)
We were so thrilled to have a wonderful visit with local author Cale Atkinson. He entertained the students thoroughly with his artistic skills in drawing and animation. We have many of his titles in our library so be sure to check them out! http://www.cale.ca

Sigmund Brouwer will be celebrating LiTerrific Day with us this year in February by opening in the morning with his trademark energetic vibe and presentation on the Power of Story. He is a bestselling author with nearly 30 titles to his name. http://sigmundbrouwer.com

Author Visit for Gr. 5 – KENNETH OPPEL (March 2018)
COTLA is proud to present: Award winning Canadian author, Kenneth Oppel!
With over 30 children and YA books under his belt, Kenneth Oppel has plenty to draw from and will surely entertain during this presentation. Some of his titles include: Silverwing trilogy, The Boundless, Airborn series, The Nest and The Apprenticeship of Victor Frankenstein books. Author Visit for Gr. K/1 – ASHLYN ANSTEE (May 2018)
Who could ask for more? Bubbly, energetic and always smiling, author/illustrator Ashlyn Anstee is thrilled to share her drawing skills with little fans. Her picture books: Are We There, Yeti? and No, No, Gnome! showcase her personality and humour, positive messages are accompanied by fantastic images. Students will request to hear the stories again and again.
