Dear Families of Casorso Elementary School,
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and share our plans for the new year. Having recently joined the Casorso Elementary Staff, I would like to say how excited I am to be a part of this wonderful school community. In my short time here, I have been welcomed with open arms by staff, students, and parents. I can attest to Casorso having the warm and inclusive feeling that we want for all children!
At CAS we are focusing on the social and emotional development of our students. We will also be continuing to work on our own assessment and reporting practices to support learning within BC's redesigned curriculum. I feel very lucky to have landed in a place where such a dedicated staff is committed to the growth and the success of their students. I encourage you to learn more about what is happening at Casorso Elementary by taking a look at our school's Community Learning Plan here.
On behalf of all of us here at Casorso Elementary I would like to wish our families a great new year where we can hopefully put most, if not all, of the COVID-19 pandemic behind us. Rest assured that the staff at Casorso continues to take every precaution in keeping your children safe by closely following our Ministry approved School District 'Staff and Student Safety Plan'.
It is an awkward time for me to be joining the school, when 'face-to-face' meetings are difficult. However, I do hope to meet as many parents as possible as I help supervise the grounds in the morning and after school. In other words, I have taken my 'open door' policy outside – please stop by to say hi, to ask questions, or to provide feedback.
I am looking forward to the chance to meet you all!

Sincerely, Jared Birkeland
